The China Stone Mills at Trevear are fine examples of late 19th century clay-stone grinding mills.

Being water-driven, they consist of a central waterwheel and grinding pans on either side.

It has long been known by the experts and enthusiasts that the whole Tregargus Valley is a treasure to industrial historians and the remains at Trevear will not disappoint.

You can walk amongst the buildings and soak up the atmosphere. It doesn’t take a huge amount of imagination to see how it all worked, but nothing can bring back the sheer buzz this valley must have had.

Trevear China Stone Mills are unusual in that they are accompanied by a miller’s cottage!

Now it is calm and tranquil, re-landscaped by nature and well-colonised by wildlife. These monuments give a mere nod to the former way of life here, driven by the demand of ordinary people to sup their tea from porcelain and dine in style.

Under the direction of the Tregargus Valley Trust, it is being cared for beautifully by pdp Green Consulting.
