The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway (LLCR) is a water-powered, fun-icular railway and still in operation!
It connects the upper village of Lynton with the lower version called Lynmouth. Both villages are furnished well with views, history, walks, gift shops, ice-creams, seagulls and cafés.
The tank under the upper carriage is filled with water piped in from a nearby river and when the tank on the lower carriage is emptied, the upper carriage, being much heavier now, swiftly and quietly descends, lifting its counter part as it goes.
It really is an engineering marvel and the views are rather spectacular as well!
Dogs and bicycles welcome, so no excuses! Look out for the limekiln at the bottom as well – it plays host to a café!
