Come on, come on – do the Locomotion with meeee!!

Locomotion is the Shildon site of the National Railway Museum – which has its headquarters in York.

The engine house is home to over 100 locomotives and is the lion’s share of the NRM collection.

Some highlights include:

• The original Sans Pareil from 1829 that Timothy Hackworth built to compete in the Rainhill trials of 1829.
• Stirling Single – a classic racer from the east coast main line built in 1870, with its 8 ft driving wheels!
• A pioneering electric loco, North Eastern No.1, from 1904.
• and The Black 5 loco – just like the Hogwarts Express!

They can also boast a collection of 1,000,000 + objects from over 300 years of railway history.
