Twin pot lime kiln from 1800s.
They used the canal, which is now silted up.
What a cracker!
There is a turntable under the carpark and low grade coal was carried to the top of the kilns for loading in layers with limestone, ready for burning.
The end result was lime, which as spread on fields to enrich the soil. It was also soaked, mixed with water, to create lime mortars and lime wash, to coat and sterilise agricultural buildings.
Owned by the pub I think. I stayed there and it was spot on.
