St. Blazey Roundhouse is the sole surviving semi-circular Roundhouse left in the country and uniquely has associated with it a working turntable.
Both structures are Grade II* listed and are also on the Heritage at Risk Register, indicating that their deterioration is serious and that they should be conserved.
The structures are located on the St. Blazey Locomotive Depot of 1874, which in itself is a grand complex of classic Victorian red-brick buildings.
A small consortium of local individuals has combined forces to look into how this can happen, not only conserving the structures but also turning them into community assets – in particular an engineering and technical training workshop. They have been fortunate enough to obtain funding from the Coastal Revival Fund to conduct a feasibility study for the ambitious plans for the Roundhouse and Turntable.
