The Scottish Maritime Museum holds an important nationally recognised and varied collection of historic ships!
It also boasts interesting artefacts, shipbuilding machinery, machine tools, several small vessels, canoes, lifeboats and other fascinating personal items!
The Scottish Maritime Museum is based in the west of Scotland, with two sites: Irvine and Dumbarton. Many of the fascinating exhibits can be found inside the Linthouse Building in Irvine, which is a unique Grade A listed, 19th—century historic building. It is known as the Linthouse Engine Shop – ‘Cathedral of Engineering’ and was the Engine Shop of Alexander Stephen and Sons. Remarkably it was salvaged and relocated from their derelict Linthouse shipyard in Glasgow during 1991!
There is loads to see here and as well as free parking and kids go FREE!
