The Museum of Scottish Railways is part of Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, which has been developed since 1979 on a reclaimed site on the south shore of the Firth of Forth. It now welcomes over 60,000 visitors every year aboard nostalgic steam and heritage diesel trains and through the doors of Scotland’s largest railway museum.
See Scotland’s only Royal Saloon coach, learn why the Fish Van has a sloping floor, come face-to-face with a mechanical horse and much more.
Soak up the atmosphere of this heritage railway, travel by steam train and explore Scotland’s largest railway museum. Listen for the whistles and watch for the green flag as you experience the sights, sounds and smells of old fashioned train travel.

It takes about 7 minutes to get here by train from Bo’ness and if you choose to walk back along the coast it takes about 15 minutes of fresh air and wonderful views! If you have time, why not take the 15 minute walk to Kinneil Estate and Museum?
Birkhill Station is a countryside location and a favourite with film-makers and has starred on TV & the silver screen!
Two different level viewing platforms at Manuel Halt, enable visitors to experience the sharp contrast between our steam and heritage diesel trains of yesteryear and the fast trains of the mainline railway on the Edinburgh-Glasgow main line.
