Hunsett Wind Pump was a water pumping mill located in the Norfolk Broads National Park.

It is now a grade II listed structure.

Hunsett Wind Pump was built in 1860 and is constructed of red bricks with a white boat-shaped cap, sails and a fantail. However, embedded in the stonework of the mill is a datestone inscribed ‘HUNSETT 1698’, which is presumed to be originating from an earlier mill on the site. The historic mill and the mill keeper’s house were used for water pumping functions until approximately 1910.

The windpump once ran 2 scoop wheels.

The tower had 4 patent sails and is approximately 12 m high. Unfortunately, in the 1960s, all the mill equipment was removed.

The accompanying house, built at the same time as the mill, was a residence for the keeper of the mill until 1900 when the advent of electricity rendered wind powered pumps obsolete. It was constructed on a raised earth mound to prevent flooding.

Since the whole area around the mill constitutes protected conservation land, the aesthetic and sustainable value of the property is and has been of the utmost importance, and this is why we have recently completed a full restoration of the listed windmill and a renovation and extension to the mill keeper’s cottage.

The privately owned residence is probably the most photographed windmill on the Broads, appearing on many postcards; this is due to its ‘chocolate box’ picture setting. The Mill is quite hard to get to, being at the Northern end of the Norfolk Broads network and it has no road access.
