Charlcotte Blast Furnace is an early 18th century charcoal-fired blast furnace.
It was originally powered by waterwheel.
Charlcotte Blast Furnace was built c1700 for the manufacture of pig iron from ironstone, using charcoal as fuel. It is a relic of the long extinct local iron industry.
Its annual cast iron production was 200-600 tons per annum with a highest of 763 tons in 1749-50.
It was water powered with a wheel to drive the bellows.
It was eventually ‘blown out’ c1780 and remains of the loading (charging) ramp are still in situ!
